Some of these facts have been confirmed by observations in just recent years.
The gamma-ray burst GRB 221009A, known as BOAT (brightest of all time), was so powerful that it caused disturbances in Earth's ionosphere. Tree rings bear traces of the solar storm of 774 AD—the Miyake event—which was many times more powerful than any flare recorded by modern instruments. And the black hole Gaia BH1 is located only 1,600 light-years away—closer than any other known black hole.
Other discoveries include the "oh-my-god particle," whose speed is almost indistinguishable from the speed of light, the Boötes void, hundreds of millions of light-years wide, and the exoplanet K2-18b, where a controversial chemical signature of possible life was recently discovered.
Zombie stars explode twice, dead galaxies go tens of billions of years without producing a single new star, and the Milky Way and Andromeda will one day collide into a single enormous galaxy.
