Sen. Franken Meets with Supreme Court Nominee Judge Garland

This morning, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.)—a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee—met with President Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Chief Judge Merrick Garland. Following the meeting, Sen. Franken called Judge Garland a consensus candidate and again challenged Senate Republicans to do their jobs as outlined in the Constitution by holding hearings and a vote for the nominee.
“Chief Judge Garland leads one of our nation’s most important courts, and during his nearly two decades on the bench, he’s received broad support from both parties,” said Sen. Franken. “Judge Garland is a consensus candidate, and I was pleased to welcome him to my office today to talk about his approach to the law. The President did his job by nominating Judge Garland, and now it’s time for us to do ours: hold hearings and have a vote. Senate Republicans should not shirk their constitutional duty, and I expect us to fulfill our obligation by moving forward with a hearing and a vote. The American people deserve to get to know Judge Garland—let’s give them that opportunity.”
