Welcome to the Free WordPress Series !
In this video, you’ll learn what are Widgets in WordPress and how to use them to customize your website layout. Widgets help you add different features like search bars, recent posts, categories, custom HTML, and more to your website without coding.
What are Widgets in WordPress?
Widgets are small content blocks that you can add to widget-ready areas of your website like sidebars, footers, or header sections. They help you display useful content like menus, text, ads, or social media links easily.
How to Use and Customize Widgets in WordPress
Step 1: Login to WordPress Dashboard
Go to your WordPress admin area.
Step 2: Go to Appearance → Widgets
Here you’ll see all available widgets like Text, Image, Categories, Search, Recent Posts, etc.
Step 3: Add Widgets to Widget Areas
Drag and drop any widget into your desired widget area like Sidebar, Footer, or Header (depending on your theme).
Step 4: Customize Widget Settings
Click on each widget to edit the content, title, or display settings. For example, you can rename the Recent Posts widget title or set the number of posts to show.
Step 5: Save Changes
After making changes, click Save on each widget to apply the settings.
Tips for Using Widgets in WordPress:
Widgets help you enhance website functionality without coding. Use widgets like Social Icons, Search Bar, or Custom HTML for ads. You can also use block-based widgets in newer WordPress versions, which offer more design flexibility.
