What is transition? Is it really the hardest part?
Well, transition is the phase of #laboranddelivery that comes right before you begin pushing #baby out. It’s usually the shortest part of labor but can be the most intense.
Why?
Well, baby is making his or her way through their final descent and naturally that can feel more intense because they’re that much closer earthside.
This is the phase of labor that many women are most scared of and honestly how I think many #ftm think labor looks or feels the entire time. This is also how the media paints the picture of #birth - super intense and unmanageable.
However, it doesn’t have to be that way.
Transition doesn’t have to be miserable. It doesn’t have to take you out of the zone (like it does for many). It doesn’t have to be scary.
We can simply use it as a guide to know where we are in labor and that we’re almost there.
As #contractions get stronger, we can think of it as baby hugging us a little closer before joining us earthside. We can use it as a guide to know we’re almost there.
There are usually some obvious signs that we are in transition such as:
-Nausea/Vomiting
-Chills
-Hot/Cold flashes
-Shaking
-Feeling like you want to give up
-Contractions lasting longer and closer together
In this labor, I experienced all of these symptoms during transition except wanting to give up. I knew the signs were there but I was so in control that I was in denial that this was really it.
What if we had so much control over our minds and bodies in labor that it all looked and felt easy?
What if transition was the bridge from our current realities to the beautiful reality that lies ahead? What if transition was the light at the end of the tunnel?
Those things don’t sound scary to me.
It’s all about your perspective.
You can do this.
