Hello, I am Inge Jansen.

I am passionate about biology and science and teaching those subjects to help learners gain an understanding of physics, chemistry and biology.

I have a BSc degree in microbiology and botany and have completed various other modules at tertiary level namely physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and biology to name a few. Currently I have a tutoring center in Pretoria and I am also tutoring online via Zoom. I have been teaching and tutoring science and biology from grade 7 - 12 since 2011 at various schools and centers including Prestige College, Brainline Academy, The Science Cottage tutor center and Curro Roodeplaat.

The purpose of this YouTube channel is to assist people struggling with science and biology-related subjects from grade 8 - 12 in all the major curricula used in South Africa. I cover Natural Science, Life Science and Physical Science in the Cambridge IGSCE, IEB and CAPS syllabi.

For tutoring:
You can contact me on [email protected] or phone/WhatsApp me at 074 486 5596. I provide 1-on-1 sessions at my class and over Zoom. Lessons are either individual, semi-individual or in a group. At my classroom I also have a small laboratory for certain practical experiments and projects such as the dissection of animal organs, chemical reactions, extraction of DNA, respiration and photosynthesis etc. I am available online even if there is load shedding.

A Lewis Structure is a very simplified representation of the valence shell electrons in a molecule. It is used to show how the electrons are arranged around individual atoms in a molecule. Electrons are shown as "dots" or for bonding electrons as a line between the two atoms. The goal is to obtain the "best" electron configuration, i.e. the octet rule and formal charges need to be satisfied.

A note on Lewis structures/diagrams:

Lewis structure does NOT attempt to explain the geometry of molecules, how the bonds form, or how the electrons are shared between the atoms. It is the simplest and most limited theory on electronic structure.

I hope you enjoyed this lesson, thank you for your time.
