MV Wakashio: Timeline and Causes - Maritime Disasters
On July 25, 2020, the bulk carrier Wakashio came dangerously close to the coast of Mauritius, and a few seemingly minor decisions set off a chain of events whose consequences were felt across the island. In this episode, I reconstruct the final hours before the ship struck the reef and examine why the official version of events began to raise increasing doubts. This material is based on reports from the Mauritius Court of Investigation and the Japan Transport Safety Board.
