In the original film and the book adaptation, which expands on and reveals some secrets, it is revealed that Michael grew up in a completely ordinary, well-off family. His father was Peter Myers, his mother Edith Myers, and Michael also had an older sister named Judith Myers. It later emerges that the boy was very withdrawn and unsociable. It also becomes clear that for some reason, Michael's parents sometimes locked him in the basement and shackled him, though the reasons for this are not explained. At some point, when Michael was six years old, he began hearing voices in his head that made him do very scary things. On Halloween night, October 31, 1963, Michael Myers returned home late from the party and began stalking his sister Judith and her boyfriend. After waiting for his sister's boyfriend to leave, he grabbed a large carving knife from the kitchen counter. Picking it up from the floor and donning a clown mask, he climbed upstairs to his sister's room and attacked her. After inflicting five deep stab wounds to his stomach and chest, Michael seemed to go into a stupor. He went downstairs and out into the street, where his parents found him in this state. On May 1, 1964, he was committed to a psychiatric hospital in Smith's Grove under the supervision of psychiatrist Sam Loomis. His parents died of unknown causes, but it is also believed that to avoid media exposure, the Myerses family simply moved to Indiana, but did not put the house up for sale and continued to pay rent for a long time. For 15 years, Michael Myers was treated in a psychiatric hospital, never uttering a word. All those years, he sat silently and stared out the window, as if waiting for a sign. During his 15 years of observation, Dr. Loomis was able to decipher Michael's essence and ultimately succeeded in having him transferred from the hospital to prison. On the night of October 30, 1978, as Dr. Loomis and nurse Marion Chambers were preparing to pick Michael up from the hospital and bring him to trial, he escaped. The cell from which he escaped bears the inscription "sister" on the inside of the door. This sets the stage for the first Halloween film, which left viewers wondering who Michael Myers really was and whether he was even human, with the character being credited as a ghost. Next, to understand who Michael is and what drives him, we'll be transported to the events of the 1995 film Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers...
Legend has it that on Halloween, the spirits of Samhain choose one family to be sacrificed in their entirety to satiate the inhabitants of the Morrigan Realm, who are allowed to return to the world of the living once a year. The firstborn male is chosen to transport the evil spirit, and the chosen one must kill every last member of his family on the night of Saiaman. This explains why Michael only begins killing on Halloween, remaining dormant the rest of the time. He targets only his immediate family; the other victims were merely obstacles or simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
