Building a Real-Time Chat Application: Using WebSocket API and CloudFormation - Step-by-Step Guide
A WebSocket API within API Gateway comprises a set of WebSocket routes that can be seamlessly integrated with backend HTTP endpoints, Lambda functions, or various AWS services. API Gateway offers a range of features that support the complete lifecycle of your APIs, from their creation to the ongoing monitoring of production APIs.
WebSocket APIs in API Gateway facilitate two-way communication. Clients have the capability to transmit messages to a service, and conversely, services can autonomously dispatch messages to clients. This bidirectional functionality enhances interactions between clients and services, allowing services to push data to clients without the need for explicit client requests. WebSocket APIs find common use in real-time applications such as chat platforms, collaboration tools, multiplayer games, and financial trading systems.
AWS CloudFormation provides a convenient means to define a group of interconnected AWS and third-party resources, swiftly and consistently provision them, and oversee them throughout their existence, all by treating infrastructure as code.
