Hornby TT 120 uncoupling ramps
Today I received 5 of the new uncoupling ramps from Hornby and testing 2 on most of my stock I only had about a 60% success rate which was not acceptable. I did try the same combination of vehicles on a Tillig electric uncoupler and had 100% success.
I came to the conclusion the Hornby ones did not go high enough and/or some couplings maybe a few thou different in height.
So I did a quick experiment on one uncoupler by gluing a strip of 20thou plastic on top.
As you can see this works (every time), however, you cannot raise it before the vehicles pass over as the couplings will hit so they must come to a halt over it, raise the ramp, move the train off.
Unfortunately 20thou catches on the loco brake rigging even when down so I will need to get some 10 or even 5 thou to test.
No idea how the 08 will go on running over it but at least I might have a solution.
