3:30 AM. Alarm goes off. Heavy rain hammering the roof of my Freightliner Cascadia at a Pilot truck stop in Nashville, Tennessee.
Started the morning the best way possible — grinding fresh dark roast coffee and making a slow French press right here on my dashboard. Watching the coffee steep through the glass carafe, pressing the plunger down slowly... there's something meditative about it at 3 AM while rain pounds outside. Then I made a stack of three fluffy pancakes on my little cooktop. Butter melting on top, maple syrup drizzling down the sides, pooling on the plate. Today's haul: Home Depot building supplies, 40,000 lbs. 250 miles on I-24 South through Tennessee, then I-75 South down to Atlanta, Georgia. Rain all day. Rolling green hills, Appalachian mountains through the mist, then tall Georgia pines and red clay.
Crossed the Tennessee River at Chattanooga with the mountains disappearing into rain and fog. Stopped for lunch at a Love's in Chattanooga. Turkey sandwich in the rain. Quick chips and Gatorade then back on I-75 heading south.
Watched the landscape change as I crossed into Georgia — the mountains flattening into rolling pine forests, the earth turning that deep Southern red. Made it to a TA Travel Center in Atlanta early afternoon. Closed all the curtains, did my skincare routine, changed into my sleep clothes.
Then came the best part of the day — made hot chocolate from scratch. Heated milk in a little pot, stirred in chocolate powder until it was rich and dark, then dropped a handful of mini marshmallows on top. Watched them melt slowly while I sipped in bed. Rain on the roof, warm chocolate in my hands, marshmallows melting on my lips. That's the cozy life.
Just me, my Cascadia, and the Southern rain.
