The difference between ‘Until’ and ‘By’
The difference among ‘Till’, ‘Until’ and ‘By’
Most of the people get confused in the use of ‘until’ and ‘by’, and they understand that both are same.
But it is very important to understand the difference between ‘until’ and ‘till’, so that we should not make mistakes in the use of ‘until’, ‘till’ and ‘by’.
First of all, it is necessary to understand that ‘until’ is equal to ‘till’. Till is the short form of ‘until’, and it is frequently used in American English. So, there is no difference in the use of ‘till’ and ‘until’ in the field of meaning. So, if we understand the use of ‘until’, we can also use ‘till’ which is sometimes written as ‘til’. ‘Til’ is absolutely wrong here.
Let’s start to grasp the proper meaning of ‘until’ and ‘by’.
The use of ‘until’ as a preposition
‘Until’ is used to mean the time up to which some work continued or will continue.
Examples:

I shall stay here until / till Monday.

The word ‘up to’ is also used in place of ‘until’ or ‘till’.
I shall stay here until / till / up to Monday.
For quantity ‘until’ or ‘till’ is not used, ‘up to’ is used.
They will allow up to 3 people.
They will allow until / till 3 people.

The use of ‘until’ as a conjunction
Things to remember:
‘Until’ carries a negative meaning. So, the negative structure should not be written after this.
When ‘until’ or ‘till’ is used as a conjunction, it is not written in future.

The use of ‘until’ as a conjunction
‘By’ is used in many ways, but here we are talking about the use of ‘by’ only as a preposition. Here it indicates a deadline that the work will be finished before this time. In no case, the work will cross the given deadline.
My home task will be finished by 9 pm.
My home task will be finished until 9 pm.

I shall return home by 5 o’clock.
