Oil-less rotary vane technology is good for patient vacuum, as well as, waste anesthetic gas. If you need a dual system to evacuate the gas out of operating rooms and use it for patient use, oil-less rotary vane works. It is used for smaller applications so you would not typically use that type of system in a hospital.
Lubricated rotary vane vacuum is good for dual use, vacuum for patients and waste anesthetic gas disposal. It is a good technology when you have combined usage. It is not a good technology if you want to use it for just waste gas because it has oil in it. So that would not be sole vacuum system for a WAGD application but it would be good for dual use.
Non-contacting claw vacuum is also a good technology for dual use vacuum for patients and waste anesthetic gas disposal. The benefits of using the claw are lower maintenance than a lubricated rotary vane because there is no oil, only gear oil in the gearbox. It is very low maintenance, very efficient, but it also is loud so you have to be careful where you locate the claw vacuum system so if it is in an area where you are going to be able to hear it, it probably wouldn’t be a good technology for that particular application.
Liquid Ring Vacuum technology has been around for a long time and they are very popular because they have almost no maintenance because they are lubricated with water. They are very good in high heat applications, they can be used in temperatures well in excessive 105 degrees, and they are very dependable and fairly quiet. The downfall to using a liquid ring vacuum system would be that it uses water and everyone is trying to save water these days. Facilities that use these have to pay for the water when they put the water into it and also to the sewage when it comes out. So we have to make sure that we are aware of that, but it is a good technology, it has been around for a long time and it is very dependable.
Rotary screw vacuum systems are also a good option for large applications. They do utilize a good amount of oil so they require a lot of maintenance. But they are especially good when you need a large system. Systems like oil-less rotary vane, lubricated rotary vane, liquid ring and the claw are limited on size. But the rotary screws go up in size well above what we might need in medical applications. It is a great alternative to some of the other systems when they are not big enough.
