A popular example of a bridge topology is the Wheatstone bridge which is used to measure the value of unknown resistances] We’ll have the same circuit for the diode bridge, but the resistors are replaced with diodes and Vg is replaced with the load of the rectifier. This load could be anything that requires a DC voltage or current such as a computer or a cell phone. For simplicity, the load will be represented by a resistor. We can also see a voltage supply here which will serve as an AC source. Also, take note of the arrangement of the diodes. it is very key in making the rectifier function properly. D4 is reversed biased with regards to the source voltage whereas D1 is forward biased with regards to the source voltage. D2 is forward biased and D3 is reversed biased with regards to the voltage source. The diodes are supposed to be arranged this way to make sure we obtain a rectified output at the terminals of the load.
