Mozart Rondo Alla Turca – Turkish March
This Rondo Alla Turca by Mozart is a new and very modern interpretation of a well-known piece performed by Katya Kramer-Lapin.
Rondo Alla Turca is the third movement of the Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major, K. 331/300i, which was originally written for the clavier. The composer himself gave it this name because the rondo imitates the sound of the Turkish Janissary bands, whose music was fashionable in the 18th century. A general interest in the culture and music of Turkey appeared in 1699, when a Turkish delegation arrived in Vienna to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Karlowitz, which ended another Austro-Turkish war that had lasted 16 years.
The first edition of the score of Piano Sonata No. 11 was published in 1784. Very quickly, the first two movement fell into oblivion, and Alla Turca began to be performed separately. And today the Rondo, also called Turkish March, is considered one of Mozart's most famous piano pieces.
