Before you comment on Angel avoiding the draft because he was gay, remember 1. he was in the closet to protect his life from the mafia and 2. could have been incarcerated or sent to be "converted" if he openly professed his sexuality. If it were that easy and painless to avoid the draft, I'm sure plenty of other soldiers would have done it.
