Matter Bridge: The Missing Link in Smart Homes
I've been wondering why my Homey Pro and Hubitat smart home devices aren't communicating via Matter, especially since both platforms claim to support it. I've done some research and it seems like a Matter Bridge is the missing piece of the puzzle. Currently, when I try to add a new device on either platform, it prompts me to scan a QR code or enter a Matter setup code. What I'd love to see is a simple button within each device's settings that generates a QR code, allowing for seamless connection between Homey Pro and Hubitat.
Imagine the possibilities if these two robust systems could truly integrate! Hubitat excels in reliability, managing numerous Zigbee switches and Wi-Fi devices without a hitch. If I could leverage Homey Pro's superior interface for automations while retaining Hubitat's stability and local control, it would solve so many of my smart home nuances. I'm not looking for new Matter devices; my existing Zigbee mesh is incredibly reliable. I just want to bridge the gap and enable Homey Pro to orchestrate automations using devices connected to Hubitat. This integration would simplify my smart home setup significantly, minimizing manual intervention and maximizing efficiency.
I truly hope that someone from Hubitat or Homey Pro is listening. There's a strong demand for this kind of interoperability. Even a third-party USB device that creates a virtual bridge would be a game-changer. I want to use Hubitat as the controlling hub for my devices, feeding that information to Homey Pro for automation, while still having an override control. Hubitat's local control and independence from the cloud are crucial for me. To me, this lack of seamless communication is a significant oversight in the Matter standard.
