The female whistles only when running slowly or when a male is in sight. During other periods, roe deer may whistle for other reasons. The female whistles to search for her offspring. Young roe deer whistle with a high pitch. By imitating a whistle, the hunter imitates the call of a female ready to mate. If using a call, it's best to imitate the explosive whistle of a roe deer.
