🌔 ABOUT CHANDRA DEV 🌔
Chandra Dev, the moon god, is the son of Brahma Dev and is endowed with 16 arts. He is
the nourisher and provider of coolness to all living beings. Born to sage Atri and Anusuya,
Chandra Dev married 27 daughters of Maharaj Daksha, earning him the title of lord of the 27
nakshatras. However, his special affection for Rohini, one of his wives, enraged Maharaj
Daksha, who cursed Chandra Dev with a wasting disease. Chandra Dev performed severe
penance to appease Lord Shiva, who, pleased with his devotion, replaced the curse with a
boon, decreeing that the moon would wax and wane every month. Lord Shiva, who placed
the moon on his forehead, came to be known as Chandramauli.
Born from the divine energies of Sage Atri and Mata Anusuya, Chandra is celebrated in ancient lore as the second luminary of the solar family, balancing the brilliance of Surya with his tranquil, soothing glow. His life is interwoven with themes of love, devotion, and redemption, making him one of the most compelling figures in Indian Vedic history.
16 कलाओं से संपन्न जीवों को पोषण एवं शीतलता प्रदान करने वाले चन्द्र देव श्री ब्रह्मदेव के मानस पुत्र ब्रह्मऋषि अत्रि और सती अनुसूया के पुत्र हैं।
महाराज दक्ष की 27 पुत्रियों से विवाह करने के कारण चंद्र देव को 27 नक्षत्रों का स्वामी माना जाता है।
उन 27 पत्नियों में से चंद्र देव को देवी रोहिणी से विशेष प्रेम था।
इस पक्षपात से क्रोधित होकर महाराज दक्ष ने चंद्र देव को क्षय रोग होने का श्राप दिया।
चंद्र देव ने महादेव की कठोर तपस्या की।
उनकी तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर महादेव ने उस श्राप का प्रतिस्थापन किया जिसके अनुसार प्रति माह चंद्रमा का आकार बढ़ता और घटता रहता है।
चन्द्रमा को अपने शीष पर स्थान देने के कारण ही भगवान शिव, चंद्रमौलि कहलाये।
