The UK is moving closer to an Australia-style social media ban for under-16s.
But the real issue is not just whether children should be protected online. Almost everyone agrees with that goal.
The real question is: how do you enforce it?
Because once a platform has to prove someone is over 16, the system quickly becomes much bigger than a “social media ban”. It means age verification. It means ID checks. It may mean passports, driving licences, facial scans, device data, IP addresses, timestamps, and third-party verification companies sitting between you and the websites you use.
