Xiaomi Aqara Door and Window sensor Home Assistant integration
Today I look at the Xiaomi Aqara Door and Window Sensor and its integration into Home Assistant. The Aqara door and window sensor is powered by zigbee not zWave and is one of the most reliable low energy sensors available. They are very small and not easily noticeable. I have been using quite a few sensors throughout my house for the last year and have not yet had to change a single battery. They can be integrated into Home Assistant in two ways: using a Xiaomi Gateway (aqara or mijia) or through zigbee2mqtt using a CC2531 zigbee USB stick. They will appear in Home Assistant as binary sensors that can take a state of ON or OFF. Through the use of automations, you can set up actions when a sensor changes state, such as when a door is open. You can set an automation to notify you, to trigger an alarm or to turn a light on, or a sequence of actions.
