Frank Baumann (58) is the carte blanche of the Swiss cultural scene. Twenty years ago, he provoked audiences as the "Ventilator" on Swiss television, and since then, his quirky ideas have repeatedly garnered attention – and laughs.

Frank Baumann says he's always a bit ahead of his time. Is that why his ideas so often divide opinions? As the "Ventilator," Baumann enraged audiences from 1996 to 2000, to the point where it even came to blows. Despite this, or perhaps precisely because of this, the former advertising executive and radio presenter achieved cult status with "Ventil."

Numerous unusual broadcast concepts followed: On "Street Live," he had people pawn their clothes and hair, he traveled through the neighboring country on "Grüezi Deutschland," and with the non-talk show "Ein Fisch für 2," he deliberately intended to bore people and simply went fishing with his guests.

Since 2008, Baumann, who for a time performed solo shows on Swiss cabaret stages, has been the artistic director of the Arosa Humor Festival. He also runs his own communications agency, develops television formats, writes books, and works as a creative consultant.

What drives him? And what's it like being a provocateur?

The jack-of-all-trades is a guest on Roger Schawinski's show.
