4 Mindsets That Have Incredibly Improved My Life

Today, I’m going to share four mindsets that I’ve personally been using for the past few years. Each one has dramatically changed my life for the better, often in multiple areas at once – including my relationships, my ability to make better decisions, my learning abilities, and more.
1. Strive to be the worst person in the room. Learn to be comfortable around people who are much better at the skill you want to learn. When you become comfortable with being bad at something, or bad relative to others, or even worse than everyone else in the group, you begin to take things to the next level.
2. Treat real-world goals like levels in a video game. When we play, we’re completely okay with dying and failing because we know that in just a few seconds we’ll be revived and able to try the level again. And the process of dying over and over is part of the learning process and, in some cases, even fun. In real life, we often feel like we have to get it right the first time, whether out of embarrassment or fear of wasting too much time. But it doesn’t work that way. If we can see things as experiences, even when we fail miserably, we become more open to learning and able to acquire new skills. Fear of failure is what really holds people back.
3. Be OK with harsh realities and ugly truths. The sad thing is that many people choose to avoid bad news rather than confront it. This causes a lot of problems. Some people know they probably did poorly on a test, so they don’t bother looking at their results until they realize they’ve been expelled. And others know their bank account balance is probably a little lower than they’d like, so they just don’t look at it until it’s gone to zero and penalties are coming in. But when you stop avoiding the unpleasant truth and pretending it doesn’t exist, you can move past the emotional pain and shock of what you’ve seen and begin to deal with it.
4. Constantly ask yourself, “Where or how am I going wrong?” Find your blind spots. Sometimes our arrogance or pride overwhelms our humility. This causes us to miss nuances or assume things that are not true. No matter how you develop this ability, once you get better at it and make it a habit, you will be a much more likeable person because people will see you as less arrogant and more open and willing to see your own flaws. It will also help you cope better with problems.
