Hey everybody Hawnsel here! I've been using this for half a year and figured I should share how to setup multiple alternating hitsounds. And if you're not interested in multiple I have the single custom hitsound tutorial in the SAME VIDEO!! It's such a cool feature and level of customization that no other game provides! If audacity loopback doesn't work just use a YouTube to mp3 site, I don't personally use any so I don't have a recommendation just be careful which sites you use please. This works on Valve's official servers and like using a custom hud you won't be VAC banned for using them.

While exporting your sound files, Audacity now has a chance to put another ".wav" after the one already in the name. This breaks the file and TF2 wont use your hitsound. Please follow the instructions below and ensure that after exporting, the file only has one ".wav" (It could look like "hitsound.wav.wav" for example) and remove any extras that may be present. The only way to do this properly is by enabling file extensions in File Explorer:
Open the TF2 game folder, and navigate to Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\hitsound\sound\ui (the folder where the hitsound/killsound is saved). In File Explorer, do the following:
1. Open the "View" menu (Top left File | Home | Share | View)
2. Tick "File name extensions" in the "Show/hide" section. (On the right of the new options)
3. Check that the name of your hitsound/killsound only contains one ".wav"
4. If it contains multiple, simply rename the file and remove any extras.
And you can of course, you may turn off the File Explorer setting afterwards, but make sure to check every time you make a new hitsound/killsound!
Also reminder for those curious:
It’s only necessary to delete the cache when when you make changes to your hit sounds because it doesn’t regenerate the cache files every time you launch the game, so if you make a change, the old cache would have to be removed so it can generate a new one with your changes. Don’t worry about constantly trying to delete it because the game has to generate it. Alternatively you could use the command, “snd_restart” to update the cache from within the game that way you don’t have to worry about finding each sound.cache. (I would’ve put this in the video but I learned about this after the fact sorry)
