The Reinforced Concrete Limit States (BAEL) was the French regulation concerning the use of reinforced concrete in construction.
It was replaced by "Eurocodes 2".
It was used in both public works (bridges, tunnels, etc.) and buildings. It is mainly based on two limit states:
The serviceability limit state (SLS), bounded by the deformation or cracking limits of the elements.
The ultimate limit state (ULS), bounded by the strength limits of the concrete and reinforcement.
