Subscribe: http://bit.ly/3i3WN4p How do you plot city and state on a map in tableau in this example I have a state map overlaid with a city map with circles let's add a new sheet and see how to do this in tableau. First I'm going to start by double clicking state Tableau understands Geographic Fields like state and city and will automatically choose to build a map if you have a State field next I'm going to double click a field called City.
And Tableau changes the level of detail to each state and city combo now we want to fulfill the the states in behind the cities so what I'm going to need to do is copy this latitude fill I can hold the control key down and drag a copy of latitude to the right on rows that gives me two maps it's on the first latitude you can see when I swap between them I'm getting two separate marks cards on the first one I don't want City gonna remove City and I'm Gonna Change it to a field map.
So now I have state on top and City on the bottom I'm going to color this using sales put sales onto color make sure you're on the first latitude pill. On the second latitude pill I also want a color by sales but I can't use the same field because it will have the same color scale so I'm going to click on the drop down on sales and duplicate.
We'll rename it it can simple Simply Be sales for City click apply okay on the second latitude pill put the sales for City Field on color you can also put the sales for City Field on size so you have color and size defining how big and colored in the circle is let's bring these two maps in together by clicking the drop down on the second latitude pill and selecting dual axis and let's make the size a little bit bigger on the cities.
You can also click color and make the city transparent so you can see the states behind them and that's a map of state and city by sales hope this helps.
