I Built a GUI Calculator in MATLAB (My First App Designer Project)
I'm taking my MATLAB skills beyond the command window! In this video, I build a fully functional graphical calculator from scratch using MATLAB's App Designer. No prior GUI experience needed—this is the real, hands-on journey of a beginner learning by doing.
In this two-part series, you'll follow my process of building this app:
Part A: The Design & Layout
• Navigating the MATLAB App Designer interface
• Designing the calculator's front-end layout with buttons and a display box
• Aligning components and using the grid layout effectively
Part B: The Code & Logic
• Writing the callback functions for each button
• Implementing the mathematical operations and logic
• Handling user input and display updates
• Troubleshooting common errors (and there were a few!)
This isn't a perfect tutorial—it's a real learning journey. You'll see my thought process, my mistakes, and how I problem-solve in real-time.
