Disable Notifications for the Annoying @Everyone Tag on Facebook
Facebook recently rolled out a new tagging option allowing users within the platform's community groups to tag everyone within that particular group in a single post using @everyone. If you're like us, the number of random notifications from strangers in groups has become more than a little irritating. Below you will find step-by-step instructions to disable Facebook notifications for the @everyone tag both on the desktop site and in the app.
Step-By-Step Instructions to Disable Notifications for @Everyone Tags
Whether you are using Facebook on a desktop or laptop, or you are inside the Facebook mobile app on your smartphone, this step-by-step guide will walk you through disabling the notifications for the @everyone tags that are driving us all a little crazy.
Start at the Menu
Start at the menu. On Android, the Facebook menu is opened when you tap on your own profile photo in the upper right corner of the app. Similarly, on the desktop site, find the menu by clicking on your profile photo in the upper right hand corner. Once you open the menu, select the gear icon that says "Settings & Privacy."
Settings
Once you have selected "Privacy & Settings," on the next screen you will then select "Settings." The next step will vary slightly between the desktop site and the mobile app.
This Step is Mobile App Only
If you are working on the desktop site, you will skip this step, and move on to the next one.
In the mobile app, it will look like the photo, showing your profile photo next to "Profile Settings," and directly underneath the words "Profile Settings" it will read "For" followed by your name. You will now select this "Profile Settings" option.
Notification Settings
Facebook doesn't make this easy on us but let's keep going. You will be rid of those obnoxious @everyone tag notifications soon. The next step, whether on desktop or mobile, is to select "Notification Settings." This is where we get to decide what kind of notifications we receive.
Tags
On the next screen, you will see the "Tags" option. Go ahead and tap it (or click it if you are on desktop). We are now in the home stretch.
Who Can Tag You
This step is an important part of disabling the @everyone notifications. By default, Facebook sends you notifications when you are tagged by anyone. You can see on the screen that it reads, "Get notifications when you're tagged by:" and then you have three options. "Anyone" is the default setting...
Change It From "Anyone"
In order to disable the @everyone notifications, you must first change the setting for your tagged notifications from "Anyone" to either "Friends of Friends" or "Friends." When you do this, Facebook will then display that bottom setting seen in the photo that reads "Receive notifications for." As long as you have "Anyone" still selected, that bottom menu will not be visible to you.
Finally! Turn Off the @Everyone Notifications
Congratulations! You have now successfully made it to the last, and final step to disable the dreaded @everyone tag notifications and this is the most simple of all of the steps. Just toggle that little switch to the off position next to where it reads "Batch @everyone mentions" and breathe a sigh of relief that you will no longer get notified when someone uses @everyone in a group.
