Step by Step upgrade from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to New Ubuntu 25.04 | Complete Step by step Guide
Ensure that you've at least 5GB of free disk space is available.
$ df -h
Create a list of all installed application packages.
$ sudo dpkg -- get-selections -- packages-list.txt
Prepare the Server for Upgrade
$ cat /etc/os-release
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade -y
$ sudo reboot
$ sudo apt autoremove -y
$ sudo apt autoclean
Enable the Temporary SSH Port
$ sudo ufw allow 1022/tcp
$ sudo ufw reload
$ sudo ufw status
Upgrade from Ubuntu 24.04 to 24.10
$ sudo vim /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
Prompt=normal
$ sudo do-release-upgrade
Press Y to all prompts
View the distribution version of the upgraded Ubuntu server.
$ cat /etc/os-release
Upgrade from Ubuntu 24.10 to 25.04
$ cat /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
[DEFAULT]

Prompt=normal
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade -y
$ sudo reboot
$ sudo ufw status
Begin the upgrade process again from Ubuntu 24.10 to Ubuntu 25.04.
$ sudo do-release-upgrade
Press Y to all prompts
