What this application is
Technical Lifting Analysis is a Windows desktop application (.NET 8, WPF) that produces a complete, stamped engineering report for upending heavy vertical equipment — the operation of rotating a vessel, tower, column, or drum from its horizontal fabricated position to vertical during erection.
It takes the equipment's weight and geometry, works out how the lifting loads change as the item is rotated from horizontal to vertical, sizes every rigging accessory (shackles, wire ropes / slings, spreader beam), checks that each accessory physically fits its lifting lug, and generates a professional multi-page PDF report suitable for review, approval, and site records.
In short: it turns what is normally hours of spreadsheet work + catalog page-flipping + hand-drawn checks into a guided, repeatable, few-minute workflow.
The engineering problem it solves
When a tall vessel is built lying down and then stood upright ("upending"), the load is shared between a top lifting point (lifting lugs or trunnions on the crane hook) and a tailing point near the base. As the item rotates through each angle, that share continuously changes — the top point can see up to the full weight, and the tail point sees its maximum at the start of the lift.
The rigging engineer must:
Find the worst-case load at each point across the whole rotation.
Apply a dynamic load factor (impact allowance).
Select shackles with adequate Working Load Limit (WLL).
Select wire ropes or slings, allowing for the reduced capacity when a leg is at an angle.
Optionally design a spreader beam and its top wires.
Verify every accessory physically fits the lug (pin through the hole, lug thickness inside the jaw, sling + lug clearance inside the bow).
This app performs all six, faithfully reproducing the governing equations, and documents the result.
Who it's for
Rigging / lifting engineers preparing lift studies for erection of process equipment.
Fabrication workshops and construction sites (e.g., refinery, LNG, petrochemical projects) that need a consistent, defensible lifting analysis per vessel.
QA / project reviewers who need a clear, standardized report to check and sign.
