"Hi my name is Pat Henry. I am a member of Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church (BBDC). I am hearing and my sign language isn't that great but I wanted to try and use sign language because that is Ruth's language. I remember the first time I went to BBDC. I went there because of an ASL class assignment to go to a Deaf event, so I decided to go to church at BBDC. I was a little anxious because it was my first time at a deaf church and I didn't really know what to expect. But it was a good service. Brian Sims preached. Church finished and I had some doubts about staying and talking because I wasn't sure my sign language was good enough - I thought about fleeing out the door! But Ruth saw me, walked up, and asked me all the usual questions: my name, where from, etc. (the things that sign language students learn in class). She made me feel comfortable and welcomed. That is probably one of the main reasons I later decided to join (without that first conversation with Ruth, I might not have gone back).
Also, another thing about Ruth that I have a strong memory of is her music. Wow, her music was really special and different, she designed it herself. (It) told about (things like) God's plan, God's love, and His purpose. Wow, so expressive-inspirational. I'll enjoy always. Love you Ruth!
