"familiar" language 🤔
When French speakers with limited English knowledge, use slang and English speakers don't understand, they often say it's "familiar" language. 🤔
But they really mean "informal" language or slang, because they're translating from the French word “familier”.
This faux ami can be really confusing for English speakers 🤯
For instance, they might use the verb “bouffer”, which is “langage familier” for “manger” (to eat) – just one of 1000s of examples.
