New Multi-Tab, Multi-Window Web Application Demo
This video show a demo of a new concept of web application: multi-tab and multi-canvas (window / panel). This specific example shows a telecommunication sites' data management application, but the multi-tab, multi-canvas concept can be applied to any application.
For each specific type of information (sites map, equipment installed on each site, reports for each site) a new tab is assigned. Tabs can be configured and mapped to display on one single canvas / window, as it is typical of today's applications (e.g. FireFox). In such case, activation of a tab, takes to the background and conceals, the previously active tab.
Alternatively, more canvases / windows can be opened, in which case, each tab can be easily mapped to display in any of the available canvases. For example, we can think of an email application with 4 tabs: Message Folders, Inbox, Message and Compose New Message. Then we can create two canvases: Canvas 1 and Canvas 2. Now we map the 'Message Folders', and 'Inbox' tabs onto Canvas 1, and the 'Message' and 'Compose New Message' tabs onto Canvas 2. At any given time, either the Message Folders tab or the Inbox tab will display on Canvas 1, and either the 'Message' tab or the 'Compose New Message' tab will display on Canvas 2. Like in any multi-tab application, simply clicking on a tab, brings it to the front and displays it on whichever canvas it is mapped.
