Let’s face it - there’s a lot of things every beginner photographer needs. In fact, there are so many things you need to get started in photography that it can be a little intimidating when you scope out the sheer length of a beginner photography gear list.
However, there are some tools you need more than others...
Obviously, you need a camera, but don’t think that you need a high-dollar DSLR or mirrorless camera to get started. You can learn the ropes of photography and take some pretty great photos with your smartphone!
But if you upgrade to a bigger camera, it will behoove you to invest in some quality accessories that will make your life easier.
One of your first purchases should be a Nifty Fifty lens - a 50mm prime. You can find these lenses on the cheap and they offer you supreme versatility without breaking the bank.
Additionally, if we’re talking about gear every beginner photography needs, a good, solid tripod should be on the list. Don’t be a cheapskate with the tripod, either! Invest in something that gives you a stable base to help you get sharp photos and something that will be durable over time.
A fast memory card and spare batteries are also must-haves. Sure, they aren’t as sexy as shopping for a new lens or an upgraded camera strap, but, hey, they’re still important!
Speaking of camera straps, this is another item every beginner photographer needs. And again, don’t be a cheapskate! Upgraded straps provide more comfort and functionality, and those are invaluable assets to have as you shoot more frequently and for longer periods of time.
Other must-have gear includes a camera remote, which along with your tripod, will keep camera shake at bay. You should invest in a camera cleaning kit as well - it’s one of the least expensive tools you can buy, but one of the most valuable.
