Indonesia As A Country Covers Roughly 19,16,907 Square Km, And Is Composed Of More Than 17,500 Islands, Making It The World's Largest Archipelago Country. Java, The Fifth Largest Island Of The Country By Area, Is Situated Between The Islands Of Sumatra To The West And Bali To The East.

Although Covering Only 127,570 Square Kilometres Or Roughly 6.7% Of The Total Area Of The Country, Java Is Home To Approximately 56% Of The Indonesian Population, or Roughly 151 Million Inhabitants Out Of Indonesia's Total Population Of 270 Million, Thus Making Java, The Most Populated Island In Indonesia As Well In The World. If Java Was A Country, It Will Be The Ninth Largest By Population.

The Island Has Larger Population Than Whole Of Russia, Which Is Nearly 135 Times Bigger Than Java. This Huge Population Of Java Makes It A Densely Populated Island, It Has Population Density Of Roughly 1,171 Inhabitants Per Square Kilometre, To Put Into Perspective, Bangladesh Is The Most Densely Populated Large Country In The World And Has Population Density Of Roughly 1270 Inhabitants Per Square Kilometre. Indonesia As A Whole Has Population Density Of Only 145 Inhabitants Per Square Kilometre.


Why Is Java Island So Populated?

There Are Various Reasons That Explains Why Java Is So Populated, One Of The Main Reason Is Its Location. Java Is Located In The Heart Of The Indonesian Archipelago, Between Sumatra And Bali,surrounded By The Java Sea, The Sunda Strait, And The Indian Ocean.this Has Made It An Ideal Trade, Transportation, And Commerce Centre. Because Of Its Location Java Has Been The Center Of Political Power In Indonesia Since The Ancient Kingdoms Of Tarumanagara (358–669),
Srivijaya(671–1288).
Mataram( 716–1016).
Singhasari(1222–1292).
Majapahit(1293–1527)
And Later Islamic Sultanates. Its Fertile Land, Natural Resources, And Strategic Location Made It An Attractive Place For Settlers And Traders, Which Led To The Development Of Urban Centers And A Diverse Population. Because Of Its Mixture Of Rural And Urban Economy, Java Island Is The Center Of Economic Activity In Indonesia, Java Alone Contributes More Than 50 % Of Indonesia's Gdp. Four Of Indonesia’s Five Largest Cities—jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, And Bekasi—are Situated On Java. These Cities Also Attract A Large Number Of Migrant Population..
