Coming from a guy who doesn't typically play gachas, you know we've got something special here.
So welcome to Morimens, a free-to-play gacha lovecraftian roguelike deckbuilder.
It's one of the most complex, most well-designed, and ultimately most fun card games I've ever seen.
This is the final boss of chapter 5 in the story, the Hydra.
And where every chapter's final boss was an extraordinary thrilling fight, this one was exceptional all around I just had to share ^_^
A few more things to clarify in the video, cause I didnt wanna write too much text on a tense boss fight.
There are around 50 characters in the game, 20 of them permanently available, and the gacha system is incredibly generous, it just shits out free pulls and silver all the time, and I believe the rotating premium banners have a guaranteed SSR character every 30 pulls, with the third guarantee being the featured toon on the banner if you don't get them prior, so up to 90 max pulls, or 18,000 silver for the featured banner character. I've played for nearly 100 hours and I've lost count of how many tens of thousands of silver or dozens of premium pulls I've gotten for just playing.
Additionally, you can test play any character in the entire roster, and there are some modes outside of the story that allow you to borrow a character from the community or from someone in your follower/friend's list.
While it's an incredible amount of flexibility in your deckbuilding, there is a restriction of not being able to have more than 2 colors in your team at any point, but under this limit you can still mix as you want, you can have 2 reds + 2 yellows, 3 reds + 1 blue, 4 purples, or 4 yellows.
I didn't explain the color mechanics themselves in the video, so
/// The red realm gives you a blood furnace that generates "babies" which are consumed either to charge ultimates or to enhance them. It also accumulates a healing well that can be clicked to fully drain it and heal your team at any time. Red characters interact with this furnace in many different ways.
/// The blue realm gives you tentacles that deal damage to the enemy at the end of every player turn and have 3 stances, a regular stance that increases number of tentacles per turn by 1, a shield stance that generates shields, and an attack stance that buffs tentacle dmg and reduces number of tentacles after the turn.
/// The yellow realm buffs your ultimate charge rates, and gives some substantial passive bonuses when combined with other colors. It doesn't have an active mechanic.
/// The purple realm saves the first card played each turn into a slot, up to 5, when you have 5 saved slots, trigger an extra turn and place all saved cards in your hand. It's a very setup-heavy realm and hardest to play in general, but the most satisfying when you pull off the craziest combos it allows.
If you die and death resistance is triggered, it is halved. I had over 300% thanks to a couple of roguelike relics I found during the run, and that allows me to survive 2 fatal hits. +1 if you include Celeste's Ultimate.
Even if you do die with no passive mechanic available to save you, there's an emergency token that you can spend to fully resurrect your team, restore your ultimates, and grants invulnerability until next turn.
You can have up to 5 of these tokens at once and you automatically recharge multiple of them per 24 hours, for free. This is a fantastic mechanic to combat horrible RNG a little bit if it happens to you, and allows you to tackle much harder challenges than you otherwise could.
I could yap way more about how well-designed and fun the game is but you get the idea by now and I've already written so much as it is :)
This game deserves to be waaaaaaaaaaay more popular than it is.
