The broadnoska is a river duck, distinguished by an unusual beak in the shape of a "shovel". The male shoveler in breeding plumage is distinguished by its green head and neck with a metallic sheen, the chest is white, the sides and abdomen are chestnut in color, the front of the wing is blue. Mirror iridescent green with white edging. The female Shirokonosk looks more modest. The plumage of the female is red-brown with black streaks, as well as with a characteristic gray-blue zone on the wing and a green “mirror”.
Here is such a rare broad-nosed duck flew to the Big Lake of the Catherine Park in Tsarskoye Selo. I saw a pair of shovelers - a drake and a female. Probably they were in our span. But, suddenly they like it here and they will stay.
