Windows 7 vs. Linux: High Definition Video Playback (Alternative Music) HD
In this test, high definition video playback is tested on both Windows 7 and Linux using VideoLan's popular VLC player.
Operating systems used:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit ($29 from Microsoft's website)
Linux Mint 10 "Julia" 64-bit
VLC Player Version 1.1.X "The luggage"
Both versions of VLC are the latest compiled builds for their platforms.
Linux Mint's was compiled on Jan 25, 2011
Windows 7's was compiled on Jan 30, 2011

Windows was using higher CPU overall because Camtasia (screen recording software) was encoding recorded footage in real time, hence using 50-60% of the CPU, as shown here:

Q: Even though LiEnucks used up 40% of the CPU, it still managed to play the video. What's the point?
A: Since a relatively newer Core 2 Duo processor was used, it is of little surprise that LiEnucks still managed to playback the video. On older processors (single core) there is no such luck. LiEnucks will fail to play your videos while Windows still does. Source: http://bit.ly/gOyt76
Summary: People with older processors will not be able to playback HD content on LiEnucks. Windows has no issues whatsoever.
