Planing a lathe saddle on a 1910 Schneider & Goosmann metal planer
An old Apex Tool & Cutter Co. roughing tool in use on a 1910 36" Schneider & Goosmann metal planer. Planer run by a 1HP Lima motor/4-speed gearbox, with a VFD driving the 3 phase motor. The underside of the saddle for a 1920's Hardinge Cataract Quick Swing lathe is being relieved so the saddle bears only on the front V-way. Wear on the saddle was allowing contact on the flat areas on either side of the front V-way, adversely affecting accuracy.
