Welcome back to the ShopCraft Secure E-Commerce Training Series!
In this video, we set up the complete ShopCraft application on a fresh laptop—from installing the required development tools to launching the Spring Boot application in a browser.
This is a practical, step-by-step environment setup guide for developers, interns, students, and recent graduates who want to run a realistic Spring Boot e-commerce project locally.

You will learn how to install and configure the essential development prerequisites:
• IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition
• Java and the required JDK
• Apache Maven
• MySQL 8 Community Edition
• MySQL Workbench
• Keycloak 26 or later
• Git and the project repository
After preparing the development environment, we walk through the complete application startup process:
• Clone the ShopCraft Git repository
• Open and import the Maven project in IntelliJ IDEA
• Review the project structure and dependencies
• Create the MySQL database schema
• Load the initial seed data
• Configure the database connection in application.yml
• Start Keycloak locally
• Import the ShopCraft Keycloak realm
• Configure users, clients, roles, and PKCE authentication
• Build the application with Maven
• Run the Spring Boot application
• Open ShopCraft at localhost:8082
• Verify login, database connectivity, and application startup
The video also explains the purpose of each major tool. IntelliJ IDEA provides the development environment, Maven manages dependencies and builds, MySQL stores transactional application data, and Keycloak provides authentication and authorization using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and PKCE.
Technology stack:
Spring Boot 3.5.9
