So part of the journey was cut out from the first video when I went to Ibnu's house in Bagorejo from Banuyuwangi. When Christopher was taking me to Ibnu's house, we came up on some type of festivity being held on the main street. I looked at the map and realized we were pretty close to Ibnu's house so I initially said my farewell to Christopher and his family and said thank you for picking me up, and I went on my way through the crowd. It was pretty crazy, there were tons of people on the street and I believe they were preparing for the Reog dance. (Reog is a traditional Javanese dance from East Java that involves many elements including graceful choreography, extraordinary physical strength, as well as extravagant costumes and decorations. The main character of Reog is the magical lion-like creature called Singa Barong) After I made it through the crowd though I found myself in the same situation, alone and without a ride. I tried my luck sticking my thumb out by everyone just kept giving me a thumbs up back. Luckily, Christopher made his way through the traffic and stopped and picked me up. WHAT A LEGEND!
There were all types of people and about all dressed up, even some ladyboys who kindly asked for my picture. Fun first day in the village, more to come from Jember!
