An entrepreneur who left his teaching job in the İmamoğlu district of Adana and started a business with 10 rabbits with government support has helped 78 people open a rabbit breeding center in five years.

Kasim Mesutoğlu (40), a teacher by profession, started breeding 10 rabbits as a hobby five years ago in the İmamoğlu district and has now produced thousands of rabbits. He was a science teacher at a private school and left his teaching job to invest in rabbits with government support. Five years ago, Mesutoğlu invested 10 rabbits with a capital of 3,500 TL. Incorporating his love of rabbits into his hobby, Mesutoğlu has grown the farm from 10 rabbits to 4,000 rabbits within five years.

Alp Kasım Mesutoğlu said, “I started with 10 rabbits. Now we have 4,000 breeding rabbits. When our farm couldn't accommodate the rabbits, we introduced this business to many other people and guaranteed their purchase, and other breeders entered the sector. Currently, 78 of our breeders have established rabbit breeding farms and are selling them to us. It's a very high-yielding livestock farming. Rabbits are the least consuming land animals in the world and the most gaining weight. Weight is important for rabbits. Tourists visiting our country, in particular, are in high demand for rabbit meat in hotels. There's a particularly high demand for rabbit meat in à la carte restaurants in tourist areas.”

Mesutoğlu explained that the start of breeding has also created employment for thousands, even hundreds, of people, adding that they contribute to both production and employment.

Şuayip Özbulut, who stated that he switched from the pastry industry to rabbit farming eight months ago, said, "I'm getting more income from the pastry industry. Rabbits both relieve stress and make money. I spent around 700,000 TL, but after three slaughters, I recouped my capital in nine months."

Emrah Dağlı, who noted that he started rabbit farming with 100 female and 33 male rabbits, said, "I started with 133 rabbits. We had our first offspring in four months. We were told there would be very few deaths, but there were almost none. Since the purchase was guaranteed, I started breeding. The fattening business is essentially the same as cattle farming, but it's more profitable than sheep farming." #agrotv #rabbit #animal husbandry
