In this video, you'll see my second solo rafting trip on a Chinese rubber boat down the Oredezh River from the Belogorskaya Hydroelectric Power Station to the Vyritsa Hydroelectric Power Station. My first experience was rafting from Siverskaya to Belogorka, but the new route proved longer, more difficult, and not without incident. Spoiler alert: I made it to Vyritsa. Not to the Vyritsa Hydroelectric Power Station. Why? Watch the video.

About the hydroelectric power stations on the Oredezh:
The following currently inoperative stations are part of the Oredezh River hydroelectric cascade:
Daimishchenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station;
Rozhdestvenskaya Hydroelectric Power Station – capacity 175 kW, generation 1.05 million kWh, head 4.9 m, commissioned in 1954;
Siverskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) — 175 kW capacity, 1.05 million kWh output, 4.2 m head, commissioned in 1957;
Belogorskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant — 175 kW capacity;
Vyritskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant — 400 kW capacity, 2.4 million kWh output, 5.5 m head, commissioned in 1953;
Nizhne-Oredezhskaya (Oredezhskaya) Hydroelectric Power Plant — 720 kW capacity, 4.32 million kWh output, 6.3 m head, commissioned in 1957.
In 1973, the cascade stations were shut down, the hydroelectric equipment was dismantled, and the turbine buildings were partially demolished. Until the mid-2000s, the dams were used as road bridges. However, their deteriorating condition led to these bridges being converted into pedestrian bridges. Proposals to restore the cascade's hydroelectric power plants have been made repeatedly, but they remain unrealized. In 2009, the hydroelectric power plant's hydraulic structures were leased long-term to Nord Hydro, which planned to restore the cascade's hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of approximately 2 MW, but these plans remained unrealized.
