"This video shows a horse lumping performance that developed in WEST JAVA, specifically in SAPAN VILLAGE, BANDUNG REGENCY."
This performance is usually held at circumcisions, gusaran (traditional dances), birthdays, and community entertainment events such as tarka (traditional dances).
The circumcised child is paraded around the village (Helaran), sitting on a yoke, such as a horse, lion, or dragon. During the helaran, the yoke is accompanied by ancient and contemporary songs, along with various musical instruments such as the dogdog, talingtit, bedug (traditional drum), kecrek (traditional drum), tarompet (trumpet), and guitar.
The characters that accompany the procession (Helaran) that have developed within the West Javanese kuda lumping art form include Gerandong/Grandong, Barong, lutung, and momonyetan.
