Saturn, known for its stunning ring system, also has a diverse family of moons that orbit around it.
Titan: Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and is known for having a thick atmosphere, rivers, lakes, and even rain. It's the second-largest moon in the entire solar system, after Jupiter's Ganymede. Titan's atmosphere is mostly nitrogen, with traces of methane, and its surface is covered by a complex mix of icy materials. Titan's atmosphere and surface have been studied by the Cassini-Huygens mission.
Enceladus: Enceladus is a smaller moon but is significant due to its active geysers that shoot water vapor and ice particles into space from cracks in its icy surface. These geysers suggest the presence of a subsurface ocean beneath the ice, making Enceladus a prime target for potential future exploration of extraterrestrial life.
Iapetus: Iapetus is known for its distinct two-toned appearance. One hemisphere is much darker than the other, giving it a "yin-yang" appearance. The darker side, called the Cassini Regio, contrasts sharply with the brighter hemisphere. This moon's surface features a large equatorial ridge that makes it quite unique among Saturn's moons.
Rhea: Rhea is Saturn's second-largest moon and has a relatively heavily cratered surface. Its surface features include a system of bright, rayed craters and an equatorial ridge similar to Iapetus.
Mimas: Mimas is often called the "Death Star" moon due to the large crater, Herschel, on its surface that gives it a resemblance to the fictional space station from the Star Wars series. Herschel Crater is nearly one-third the diameter of Mimas itself.
Hyperion: Hyperion is irregularly shaped and has a chaotic rotation. Its surface is covered in impact craters, making it appear sponge-like in some images.
