Here's a video of my talk I gave to predominantly nursing students at Johns Hopkins University on October 7, 2015. The title of my talk was "Historical Trauma, Community Health, and How We Can Make Baltimore Whole."
I discuss a litany of mass traumatic events that Black Americans generally, and Black Baltimoreans specifically, have experienced via policies and practices.
This has led to not only poor health outcomes for many people, but a series of social pathologies, disinvested communities, and a broken Baltimore. We MUST understand how our communities became the way that they are today if we want to heal and repair our city.
