Himachal Pradesh - Spiti Valley, Kareri Lake, Kalpa
A wonderful and breathtaking journey across the gorgeous state of Himachal Pradesh.
Reached Spiti Valley via Manali-Losar-Grampho-Batal-Kaza route. Total distance from Losar to Kaza is 140 km and about 90 km of route starting ahead of Losar is unpaved, riddled with almost a dozen of water crossings. Boggy pathes and moving boulders do dampen the spirits but once you reach the Kunzom Pass, sight of paved road makes you open the throttle. Road from Kunzom Pass to Kaza is single-way black top road. Journey from manali to Kaza on this axis takes about 9 hours.
After two days of acclimatization, one can start the circuit from Kaza-Langza-Hikkim-Komic and witness the deep roots of Buddhism in these cold and arid lands. Tabo is about 1 hour 30 minutes of driving/riding distance away from Kaza.
Finding places to stay is easy as a lot of hotels and locals offer rooms at reasonable prices.
Cafes like Cafe Piti, Deyzor Cafe and Himalayan Cafe offer amazing food, both local and international.
Post returning to Manali, one can drive from Manali to Dharamshala and then ply on the beautiful Kareri Lake Trek.
If returning to Shimla from Kaza, one can halt at Kalpa enrote and enjoy the star-lit night sky.
