Stargate SG-1’s Prometheus was humanity’s first true capital warship, built to give Earth an answer to the Goa’uld Ha’tak. But by the time the BC-303 faced the Ori threat, the war it had been designed to fight had completely changed.
In this Stargate analysis, we trace the Prometheus from its secret construction and disastrous early missions through its Asgard upgrades, shifting role, and eventual destruction over Tegalus. The Ori satellite that destroyed Prometheus was unquestionably more powerful, but raw technology only explains how the ship was lost.
The bigger question is why Earth sent it into that fight at all.
Prometheus spent its service life being adapted for one mission after another without a clear doctrine defining what Earth’s first warship was actually supposed to become. By the events of “Ethon,” that problem finally became fatal.
Was Prometheus simply outclassed, or did Earth fail its first warship long before the Ori ever fired on it?
