The final stage of IVF treatment is embryo transfer. One or two of the highest quality embryos selected from the developing embryos are placed in the mother's uterus, and the embryos are expected to implant in the endometrium and cause pregnancy. The date of the transfer is determined by considering many factors, including the woman's age, treatment history, and the number and quality of the embryos. Embryo transfer is usually performed on day 2, 3, or 5.

Embryo transfer is a simple procedure that does not require anesthesia. Because the transfer is performed under abdominal ultrasound monitoring, a full bladder is required during the procedure. Therefore, you will be asked to be constricted when you enter for the transfer. Performing the transfer under ultrasound guidance allows for the catheter to be monitored as it passes into the uterus. During the procedure, the specialist first visualizes the cervix, the entrance to the uterus, using a vaginal instrument (speculum) and cleans it with warm fluid. At this time, the selected embryo is placed in a suitable medium in the embryology laboratory and collected. The embryologist prepares the embryos for transfer by drawing them into a soft, long, and thin silicone transfer catheter with a syringe attached. The specialist then passes the tip of the transfer catheter through the cervix and deposits the embryos into the uterine cavity.

Before the procedure, your embryologist will provide you with detailed information about your embryos. They can also provide you with a photograph if you request.

After the transfer, the patient rests for 15-20 minutes and is then taken to their room, where they are asked to rest for approximately 1-2 hours. After the nurses explain any important points, they are discharged, and the IVF procedure is completed. After this, there is a 12-day wait until the pregnancy test is scheduled.
