While Cancun is a destination offered by virtually every travel agency in the world, many of us prefer to plan our trips at our own pace, within our budget, and with flexibility. If you're this type of traveler, here's everything you need to know.
Where to stay in Cancun?
Cancun is divided into five areas, and the best place to stay is undoubtedly the Hotel Zone, just steps from the beach. It's home to the highest-rated hotels, but also offers hostel options for those on a tighter budget.
How to get to Cancun?
Cancun has an international airport located less than 30 minutes from the city's Hotel Zone. You can find direct flights from various points in Mexico and other parts of the world. This allows you to travel directly to this area of Mexico without a layover in Mexico City.
Transportation between the airport and the Hotel Zone isn't exactly cheap. If you take a taxi or private transfer, you'll pay between 400 and 1000 Mexican pesos. In this case, the cost is divided among the number of people in your travel group, but if you're traveling alone, it can be expensive. The alternative would be a shared transfer, which costs approximately 200 MXN per person (less than 10 USD).
