The Cursed Ring of Senicianus
The story of a Roman golden ring, stolen, cursed and then lost, which was the inspiration for a famous novel of the 20th century.
Found at the end of the 18th century in England, the ring of Senicianus remained for a long time just a curiosity, for its peculiar mixture of pagan and Christian symbols, representative of that era of transition that was the 4th century. But at the beginning of the 20th century, an English archaeologist connected the ring to a "dēfīxiō", a lead plaque containing a Latin curse, found in the temple of the Celtic god Nodens, and which allowed to reconstruct the dynamics of an ancient theft. A few years later, the story of the ring of Senicianus inspired a masterpiece of English literature.
